The Brownstone Trail
Appreciation Walk
Saturday, July 26th
10:00am-12:00pm
Over 65 participants celebrated the Brownstone Trail and the owners of 24 easements that made it possible. After brief remarks a ribbon was cut at the newly stained kiosk and Marilyn and Bill Van Sant were thanked for their significant bridge contribution and steadfast commitment to our community. Their beautiful gardens set the backdrop for the view of the islands from their bridge. The family of Robert Emery were present—a brownstone rock at the trailhead dedicates the trail to him. They reminisced how he used to me known as the “town walker.” When he died his memorial funds went to help build the trail. Rex Dollinger, a landowner and BRC volunteer on the trail stressed the importance of the trail for transportation in lieu of cars, traffic and parking problems in Bayfield. “The trail serves approximately 15 private homes, 80 condominiums, 400 marina slips, two adjacent restaurants and three hotels/motels and their bikers and walkers. And that’s not including all of Bayfield,” says Rex. The new sign at the trailhead rightly commemorates the landowners who call this trail home, “Donated by Many for All.”
